50th Birthday – May 11, 2015

The State of Israel was born in 1948, after the horrors of war, persecutions and genocide. Once the state is made, the citizens must be made and citizens blend with the laws and common culture.
The Israel Museum was then founded in 1965. On 11 May 2015, its 50th anniversary is celebrated. The 50 years that have transformed the country and made the Israel Museum the cultural institution par excellence.

All the most eminent politicians of Israel paraded through the museum, starting with Ben Gurion and ending with the current head of the Netanyahu government. The great personalities of the world visited the museum, the last of which was the American President Barak Obama. Treasures donated from around the world, reconstruction and transfers of synagogues from many countries, precious evidence of Jewish objects, the writings of Qumran kept in the “Shrine of the Book” pavilion, Rembrandt, Picasso, Modigliani and masters of contemporary art frame together with tens and tens of thousands of other finds and testimonies.
